LAPAROSCOPIC ILEAL INTERPOSITION

Home  /  LAPAROSCOPIC ILEAL INTERPOSITION

Laparoscopic Ileal Interposition is another experimental procedure that is still in its initial human phases for the treatment of type II Diabetes. It was first reported in animal studies by Dr. Koomans and colleagues, and later carried out in humans by Dr. de Paula in Brazil.

The procedure involves removing part of the distal small bowel (ileum) and interposing it earlier in the beginning of the small bowel. Dr. de Paula added to this procedure Sleeve Gastrectomy, and Duodenal bypass to improve the results of blood sugar and Diabetes control in the non-obese individuals.

Again, this procedure cannot be offered to the public prior to establishing its long term results and comparing its advantages and disadvantages to intensive medical treatment, especially in the non-obese diabetic population.
